The Great Christmas Tree is illuminated from November 26 to January 5, 2026. Experience the musical and luminous awakening of the Great Christmas Tree, every day and at all hours between 4pm and 9pm and without music from 10pm to midnight.
This year, it will be 455 years since the first Christmas Market in France took place, in one of the most beautiful cities in France, Strasbourg (we promise we are completely objective!)
But how did this beautiful story begin?
In 1570, Pastor Johannes Flinner, at the head of the Protestant reform, wanted to ban the celebration of Saint Nicholas.
The traders are not happy with this decision because this festival was an opportunity to organize a big fair. In a city like Strasbourg, it's hard to leave merchants unhappy. A compromise is then found: a fair is still organized but two things change: it will no longer take place on December 6 (Saint Nicholas Day) but three days before Christmas and will be in honor of the child Jesus (Christkindel).
From year to year, the Christmas market continues to grow and welcomes more and more lovers of the Christmas spirit and mulled wine. In 2024, it welcomed no less than 3,4 million visitors!
For the 2025 edition, the market will take place from November 26th to December 24th. The capital of Christmas will be dressed in its most beautiful lights and decorations but also of course with its unmissable tree which will proudly stand 30 meters high on Place Kléber. This year, no less than 300 chalets await you to celebrate the spirit of Christmas.
Last little information for the most curious among you: it’s not one Christmas market that awaits you, but 8!
Indeed, several places on the Big Island will host different markets with distinct themes. Place Broglie, Place Kléber, or even the terrace of the Palais Rohan await you! And for the others, we leave you the pleasure of discovering them during your walk lulled by songs and the scent of mulled wine.
You can download the Christmas market map HERE as well as the detailed program (in French)!
